High Power to Weight DC Traction Motor ( DR50/01AZ )

Traction Motor Type DR50/01AZ is a series wound, four pole, forced ventilated DC motor, with high power to weight ratio, developed for use on Broad Gauge Diesel Electric Locomotives. The motor has the following special features:

Low unsprung mass enabling high locomotive speeds.

Nose suspension with axle roller bearing drive.

Arch bound commutator, dynamically seasoned, with L-shaped Teflon ring protection.

Heat sealed KAPTON covered armature conductors.

TIG welded armature.

Polyimide film (kapton), and PTFE tape based insulation for armature and field coils.

Main field and compole coils bonded with poles for improved heat dissipation.

VPI of armature and field coils in solventless polyesterimide resin (Class 200) to obtain void
free insulation.

Terminal box on motor facilitating connections with external circuitry.

Reaction type brush holders for better stability and improved commutation.

Fluonlex cables for brush gear cross connections and brush gear to field connections.

Additional support for gearcase mounting.
